Review & Description

Offering breakthrough technology to provide maximum protection for your family, the Kidde KN-COSM-XTR-B intelligent alarm combines fire, smoke, and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms into a single device. And more than just beeping alerts, the KN-COSM-XTR-B provides voice warnings that clearly state the present danger-- announcing either "Fire! Fire!" or "Warning! Carbon Monoxide!" And if you don't currently have a CO detector, it's never been a better time to add one as an increasing number of state and local governments are passing legislation that will require one in your home.

Features

The KN-COSM-XTR-B intelligent alarm offers a fast response to real fires, including smoldering and fast-flaming, as well as protects you from carbon monoxide. The intelligent alarm combines the detection capabilities of an ionization smoke sensor--which is more likely to detect smaller, less visible fire particles, like those produced by flaming fires--with those of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect CO. Since carbon monoxide is present in all fires, having both detection chambers work together is ideal.

When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it communicates with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm adjusts its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. If fire is detected, a red LED flashes while three long beeps are sounded, followed by a verbal warning message of "Fire! Fire!" If carbon monoxide is detected, four short alarm beeps sound, followed by a voice alert of "Warning! Carbon monoxide!"

Other features include a low-battery warning, a hush feature that silences nuisance alarms, a test/reset button, and a peak CO level memory. It's powered by three AA batteries, and it's backed by a seven-year limited warranty.
